County Auditor Karl Keith announced the kickoff of the dog licensing season Thursday along with Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck and Montgomery County Animal Resource Center Bob Gruhl in Jefferson Township.

The Sheriff’s Office’s newest K-9, Bart, received the first dog license Thursday, free of charge.

“The fastest and easiest way to get your 2022 dog license is online,” Keith said. “I encourage dog owners to take advantage of that convenient opportunity to keep their pet safe.”

Dog licenses help reunite owners with their pet if it goes missing, the County said.

“Dog licenses are crucial to public safety. They let people know that a dog has a home and a family that cares, “Gruhl said. “If a dog is lost and wearing a license, the finder can reunite that animal with their family without ever needing to involve the Animal Resource Center.”
