DAYTON — If you’ve seen fighter jets flying around the Dayton area Wednesday morning, there is a reason.
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base announced Wednesday morning that the 180th Fighter Wing would be conducting a test of the Aerospace Control Alert System.

“Those living in and around the Dayton, Delaware and Middletown, Ohio areas may hear and/or see fighter jets in close proximity to a Civil Air Patrol aircraft, which will be taking on the role of a Track of Interest (TOI),” officials said in a social media post.
Officials described at TOI as an aircraft that has been identified as a potential threat.

The exercise is meant to practice coordination between the Eastern Air Defense Sector, Federal Aviation Administration and 180th Fighter Wing.
According to WPAFB, the training started at 8 a.m. and will continue until noon.
