Cyclist in critical condition after hit in crash in Harrison Twp. Saturday

HARRISON TWP. — UPDATE 10/18 @ 9 a.m.:

Richard E. Gibson, the victim riding his bicycle in Saturday’s crash on North Dixie Drive is now in critical condition, according to Kettering Medical Center.

UPDATE @ 5:25 p.m.:

A 52-year-old man received life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle on North Dixie Drive near Ontario Avenue in Harrison Twp. just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The man was heading southbound on his bicycle at the same time that a gray 2007 Chevy Impala was traveling south on North Dixie Drive in the left lane.

The cyclist was driving in the center turn lane and turned in front of the vehicle when he was struck, according to a preliminary investigation from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Chevy Impala was a 23-year-old man, deputies say.

The incident is still under investigation.

INITIAL REPORT:

A male pedestrian was struck and taken to the hospital Saturday around 11:30 a.m. in Harrison Twp.

Crews are still on scene investigating at North Dixie Drive and Ontario Avenue.

Crime scene tape has been put up around where the incident took place.

The southbound lane of North Dixie Drive is currently closed between Neva Drive and Ontario Avenue, according to dispatchers.
