Dominique A. Horton, 19, of Dayton, was identified as the driver killed in the crash on northbound I-75 north of state Route 73 in Franklin around 11:20 p.m. Thursday, state troopers said in a media release.
State troopers and fire crews were already in the area investigating a non-injury crash involving a semitruck, with a City of Franklin fire truck parked blocking the left lane. The fire truck had its emergency lights on and was there for traffic control around the crash, state troopers said.
Horton crashed the 2012 Chevy car into the back of the fire truck around 11:23 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger, identified as Taylor Smith, 21, also of Dayton, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.
Four Franklin firefighters were in the truck at the time of the crash but none were injured.
Neither Horton or Smith were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Excessive speed, alcohol and/or drug impairment are also being investigated as contributing factors in the crash.
Additional details were not released.
