SPRINGFIELD — Springfield City Schools will be providing all school supplies for students in preschool through 8th grade for the 2021-22 school year.
Springfield City District Superintendent Bob Hill said the district will provide school supplies for the approximately 5,700 students in preschool through 8th grade in the district.
“We decided since we were capable of providing the supplied for our students this year, from a financial perspective, that we would do it,” Hill said.
Hill said the distribution of the supplies, such as crayons, pencils and scissors, will be funded by tax dollars.
“We’ve been excellent stewards financially of the tax dollars that we’ve received from the community as well as the state of Ohio. Through that great financial stewardship we did have enough financial backing and budgetary dollars to provide this service,” Hill said.
The district said they expect to spend approximately $300,000 dollars on supplies for grades up through the 6th grade. Hill said the district is still working out the logistics for 7th and 8th grade students.
“We don’t typically require supplied at those grade levels,” Hill said.
Supplies will be given out to students on the first day of school on Aug. 18. All students will need to bring to school their first day is their own backpack and water bottle.
