A dog died today from a small kitchen fire in New Carlisle.
Crews from Bethel Twp. and Pike Twp. assisted New Carlisle in responding shortly after 11 a.m. to a report of a smoke filled house in the 1800 block of North Dayton Lakeview Road.
The fire was caused by an electrical malfunction with the microwave in the kitchen, according to Capt. Dan. Bowman of the New Carlisle Division of Fire.
The residents had just returned home after leaving for a few hours.
Bowman said crews put the flames out quickly, but the smoke was too much for the small, older dog and it succumbed to smoke inhalation.
