The NAACP and Huber Heights city leaders held a news conference Thursday, both supporting the planned protest and denounced any unlawful, violent actions and property damage associated with any protest. The city followed up the press conference with a statement posted to social media in support of those wishing to organize and protest peacefully.

City leaders said they believe the protest will be a very peaceful and have no plans to issue a curfew. However, city officials vowed harsh penalties on anyone who causes violence or property damage Saturday night.

Dayton Unit NAACP President Derrick Foward said he believes the demonstrations will continue through the legal proceedings of the four former Minneapolis officers accused in Floyd’s death.

Multiple demonstrations were planned in Dayton and in several surrounding communities Thursday, including Fairborn, Eaton and Troy. During the week, several other Dayton-area suburbs saw demonstrations that were largely peaceful.
