DEERFIELD TWP., Warren County — A 3-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was stabbed by a neighbor near Mason in Warren County Thursday, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
The stabbing was reported by a Mason City Schools student who was learning remotely. The student reported to her teacher that her mother was stabbing someone and the teacher called 911, a district spokesperson said in a social media post.
Deputies and medics responded to a house on Charleston Park Drive in Deerfield Twp. and found the boy was stabbed with a ceramic knife, deputies said in a media release.
The boy was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening, deputies said. The child is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Mason schools spokesperson.
The neighbor, who was not identified, was taken into custody with formal charges still pending, deputies said.
The boy’s family is part of the Mason City School district and support is being offered by the district to students or parents in need.
