Dayton police are searching for a suspect in a rape reported Monday morning and urging the public to use appropriate caution.
A 43-year-old woman reported that she was walking in an alley between West Fairview and West Norman avenues at about 3:30 a.m. Monday when someone pushed her to the ground and hit her in the head. She was then sexually assaulted.
The male assailant is described as black, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a light complexion. The man is about 28 to 30 years old and was wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants at the time of the attack.
The man indicated that he had a gun but police have not confirmed that information.
"For safety reasons, we request the public utilize measures to ensure their well-being while traveling on foot at night," said a statement from Dayton Police on Tuesday. "If possible, walk with someone or, even better, a group of people. Avoid alleys (especially dark alleys with little or no lighting). Walk well traveled paths (foot and vehicle traffic) whenever possible, even if it adds a bit of time to your travel."
Any tips regarding this incident can be directed to Detective Stutz at (937) 333-1167.
