Suspects caught after Miami Twp. Verizon break-in

Three people were taken into police custody after the Verizon Wireless store on Miamisburg Centerville Road was broken into late Sunday night.

Police responded to the store, located across the street from the Dayton Mall, just before 11 p.m. after receiving a call from onlookers that people were breaking into the store, police said.

When officers arrived at the store, they found the front window of the store had been busted.

Because of the time of the crime, around the change in shift for Miami Twp. officers, and because the break-in was called in by a 911 call and not an alarm service, several officers were able to quickly respond to the scene, said Miami Twp. Sgt. Paul Nienhaus.

An officer responding to the area to set up a perimeter around the store saw a vehicle quickly leaving from a nearby apartment complex. The car matched the description of a suspect vehicle from a different break-in in the area and the officer stopped the car, Nienhaus said.

Inside of the stopped vehicle police found evidence of the break-in along with stolen merchandise from the store.

Three people from the vehicle were detained, two male juveniles and an adult female. The suspects are from Jefferson Twp., Nienhaus said.

"Anyone breaking into stores, you may be successful at first, but through everything evidence is left behind," Nienhaus said.

"Eventually, something goes wrong and you will get caught," he added.

Several jurisdictions around the area have dealt with an 'epidemic' of cell phone store break-ins over the past several months.
