Two College of Mount St. Joseph football players died in a crash Sunday around 7 p.m. near the border of West Price Hill and Delhi Twp., according to WCPO in Cincinnati.
Tyler Stiles, 22, was driving a 2003 Honda Civic when he lost control, according to investigators. He went left of center, striking a 2008 Lexus RX350.
Stiles and his passenger, Michael Tepe, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Springboro community was mourning Monday after learning of Tepe, a popular Springboro High School graduate, was killed.
"The Springboro football family lost a great person," Ryan Wilhite, football coach at Springboro said, in a statement. "We're sad and shocked to hear the news. We're all happy to have known him and had him in our lives."
"Michael was a very talented student-athlete who was a leader and great teammate in his time here at Springboro, "Wilhite said. "Most importantly though about Michael was the kind-hearted and helpful nature that he had off of the field."
Tepe started on offense and defense for the Panthers in 2009, when the team finished 8-2. He also played basketball at Springboro.
"He was a basketball player for us, he was a football player for us. I think everybody in Springboro knew him," said Troy Holtrey, former basketball coach and athletic director in Springboro.
Funeral arrangements for Tepe were pending with Anderson Funeral Home in Springboro.
Teachers and friends in Springboro posted eulogies on Facebook.
Tepe was majoring in social work at the college, where a prayer service and remembrance event were held.
WCPO reports the other driver, Michael Riggs, 63, was treated at a hospital and released. Riggs' wife is listed as stable at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Stiles was a former Mt. St. Joe's football player and Tepe was a current player, according to the school's athletics website.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
