Man arrested after pursuit that injures 1 West Carrollton fireworks spectator

The driver of a pickup truck was arrested Thursday night in West Carrollton after witnesses said he nearly struck people who had gathered to watch fireworks.

West Carrollton police identified the suspect on Saturday as 29-year-old Brian L. Wilson Jr. He is being held on $65,000 bond following his arrest around 10:10 p.m. on Terrence Court off Alex Road. That is near where spectators were inside a barricaded section of roadway on North Alex Road for Moraine’s Star Spangled Boom fireworks show, which started at 10 p.m. at Wax Park.

Numerous witnesses said the driver came through the barricades at a high rate of speed with police in pursuit. West Carrollton police said one spectator was reported injured, but it was minor.

“We were all sitting in the street when a black truck came through the barricade,” said a witness who wished to remain anonymous. He said about 40 people narrowly avoided getting hit, thanks to a firefighter who yelled at everyone to get out of the way.

The caller said police were pursuing the driver who turned off into a cul-de-sac and was hemmed in before he was arrested.

Wilson was booked into the jail on suspicion of suspicion of felonious assault, failure to comply with a police order, and also a misdemeanor theft charge.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Miamisburg Municipal Court. Additional charges are possible once the case is presented to a grand jury, police said.

Another witness said a firefighter was standing with the spectators in the barricaded area and was alerted to a possibly stolen truck headed their way at a high rate of speed.
