Police: Man swipes keys, tries to extort BP manager

A man who swiped a BP manager’s set of work keys on Saturday offered to trade them for $250.

Police were called around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after a man called the gas station, 500 Salem Ave., saying he found the station’s keys in the parking lot but wanted $250 to return them, according to a Dayton police report.

The manager told police she worked an earlier shift that ended around 3 p.m. but later noticed she did not have her work keys in her pocket. However, she said the caller’s story is bogus, and that the keys were taken from the counter. She said surveillance cameras may have caught the suspect, the report stated.

Police made several attempts to call the suspect, but he would hang up and not answer questions. No arrests have been made and the incident is under investigation.
