Police ID Dayton homicide victim; witness says shooters wore masks

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 11:20 p.m.:

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of 48-year-old Virgil Lee, who was shot Wednesday night outside a residence in the 2200 block of Kensington Drive.

Lt. Steven Bauer said officers were dispatched around 8:40 p.m. on a report of a shooting. They discovered Lee lying in front of the house, deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.

No suspects have been named.

According to the 911 caller, multiple shooters wearing masks are responsible.

UPDATE @ 11:02 p.m.:

Virgil Lee, 48, has been identified as the victim in a homicide that occurred in the 2200 block of Kensington Drive Wednesday evening.

According to the 911 caller, Lee was shot by people wearing masks.

The caller said he did not witness the actual shooting, but told the operator to “send someone quick.”

Police are still on the scene.

UPDATE @ 9:54 p.m.:

A neighbor said he and his wife heard gunshots about a minute later after hearing arguing and seeing darker figures at a residence in the 2200 block of Kensington Drive, where police are now investigating a homicide.

“I got off work, came in and me and my wife heard about 6 to 7 gunshots,” Bryan Still said. “We thought it wasn’t safe to approach and go toward the direction of the shots at that time.”

Police have the area at St. James Avenue and Kensington Drive taped off.

FIRST REPORT @ 9:33 p.m.: Police are currently investigating a homicide that took place in the 2200 block of Kensington Drive Wednesday evening.

Saint James Avenue at Kensington has been taped off.

Units were dispatched to the area at approximately 8:41 p.m. after a caller reported hearing a shot and then saw a body lying on the ground.
