SWAT standoff in Dayton ends with one in custody

DAYTON — A man was taken into custody following a standoff with police that spanned nearly five hours Tuesday morning.

Officers were first requested to a home in the 3400 block of Wellington Drive around 4:30 a.m. after police received a report that an intoxicated person inappropriately touched a woman in the house, according to dispatch records.

Officers received additional updates that the suspect also took a gun from the victim and fired one shot in the house, records show.

Police surrounded the house and requested SWAT units to respond. Neighboring homes were also evacuated during the standoff.

After SWAT units and armored trucks arrived on scene, the suspect came out of the house and surrendered around 9 a.m., according to our crew on the scene.

William Barakatt, 33, was arrested on preliminary charges of assault, aggravated menacing, and gross sexual imposition, according to online jail records. He has been booked in the Montgomery County Jail, however his mugshot was not immediately available.

Investigators on the scene declined to provide updates on the incident and investigation.

No injuries were reported.
