OSP: Motorcyclist in I-75 chase said he took off because he was scared

TROY — A motorcyclist in a 5-mile pursuit Sunday afternoon told troopers he took off from an attempted traffic stop because he was scared.

Michael T. Smith, 27 of Fletcher in Miami County, was arrested around 2:15 p.m. on northbound Interstate 75 following a chase near Troy that reached 130 mph, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Piqua Post.

Smith was booked into the Miami County Jail on suspicion of fleeing and eluding, a felony, and misdemeanors of operating a vehicle under the influence, reckless operation and no motorcycle endorsement.

He pleaded not guilty Monday, and cash bond was set at $16,000 during his arraignment in Miami County Municipal Court.
