Man charged with murder in fatal Hamilton stabbing

UPDATE, MARCH 19, 11:03 a.m.:

Jonathon Day, 28, of Mark Avenue in Hamilton, is in the Butler County Jail on a $200,000 bond, according to online jail records.

Day, who has been charged with murder, is also charged with felonious assault and a probation violation. The bond according to court records is for the felonious assault charge, but no bond has been set for the murder or probation violation charges.

Day is scheduled to be in Hamilton Municipal Court on Wednesday related to the probation violation.

Day had been sentenced to 2 years community control following a guilty verdict regarding a 2015 assault charge, according to Hamilton Municipal Court records. He was sentenced to six months in jail with four months suspended. He had already served two months in jail.

Day was already to be in court this coming Wednesday related to a March 8 theft arrest. He was arraigned on March 15 and that case was also continued until this coming Wednesday.

He is also set to re-appear in Hamilton Municipal on April 1 for a contempt of court charge levied on Nov. 11, 2015. That charge was brought forward by the probation department.

UPDATE, MARCH 18, 3:30 p.m.:

After meeting with prosecutors, Hamilton detectives have charged Jonathon Day with murder.

The Hamilton Police Department did not have any further information immediately available.

UPDATE, MARCH 18, 11:30 a.m.:

A Hamilton man has died from injuries he received when he was stabbed Wednesday night, according to police.

Police have not said if charges will be upgraded for Jonathon Day for the stabbing death of Clifford Wagers in Hamilton.

ORIGINAL REPORT, MARCH 17:

Police have arrested a man that was suspected of being involved in serious stabbing on Mark Avenue on Wednesday night.

Officers responded to the 700 block of Mark Avenue around 10:10 p.m. and found Clifford Wagers suffering from stab wounds, according to Hamilton Police.

Wagers was transported to a local hospital by medical helicopter and is listed in critical condition, officers said.

Hamilton officers and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office searched for a suspect and eventually located Jonathon Dwayne Day on NW Washington Blvd., where he was arrested for felonious assault, investigators said.
