Kroger theft lands man in jail; security injured

A 43-year-old man was arrested after he attempted to steal from the Kroger store on East Main Street and in the process assaulted two loss prevention officers, deputies said.

Deputies responded to the store around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call from the business, 2728 East Main Street, requesting officers for a theft in progress.

The caller told emergency dispatchers the man, Kelly Rigsby, 43, was fighting with the two loss prevention officers, who were attempting to stop the theft, deputies said.

Deputies arrived and intervened in the fight, eventually taking Rigsby into custody. The two loss prevention officers suffered minor injuries and were treated for their injuries on the scene.

Rigsby was booked into the Clark County Jail on a charge of robbery and two counts of assault. He also has outstanding warrants for theft and receiving stolen property, the sheriff's office said.

Rigsby is scheduled to appear in court this morning.
