UPDATE @ 3:04 p.m. 6/10/2015:
A Kettering man was found guilty today of multiple charges stemming from a November 2014 home invasion in Huber Heights.
Matthew L. Short, 24, was found guilty of one count felonious assault on a police officer; three counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon; three counts of kidnapping; and one count of aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, according to a release from the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
Short was armed with a gun when he entered a Taylorsville Road home and tied up an older man and ordered two other occupants to go to the basement.
The man was able to free himself and call police and when the officer arrived, Short fired a shot at him, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Short got away but police were able to identify him from a nearby security camera and Short turned himself in the next day.
Prosecutor Mat Heck issued the following statement about the successful prosecution:
“This defendant brazenly kidnapped three victims and shot at a police officer while fleeing. He is clearly a dangerous individual. Thankfully, no one was injured or killed during this crime.”
Sentencing is scheduled for July 17.
FIRST REPORT 11/23/2014:
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for Matthew Lee Short on charges accusing him of terrorizing a Mad River Twp. couple on Saturday.
This latest warrant — on charges of aggravated burglary and abduction — comes a day after the Huber Heights Police Department announced formal charges of felonious assault on a peace officer, burglary, aggravated robbery and kidnapping against Short, 24. The Dayton resident is accused of firing shots at a police officer who responded to a home invasion Sunday evening.
According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, a South Tecumseh Road resident identified Short as the gunman who invaded his home and pulled a gun on him and his wife Saturday afternoon.
The husband told sheriff’s investigators the intruder showed up unannounced and made up a story about having car trouble. When the husband and the intruder couldn’t locate the car, the intruder claimed his wife was on her way to pick him up but must have gone to the wrong house.
The intruder left, saying he was going to look for his wife, but returned moments later and said he had lost his insulin. The husband — who by this time was armed with a handgun — said he and the intruder were looking in the garage when the intruder pulled a handgun and pointed it in the husband’s face.
The husband said the intruder lowered the gun after some time and apologized. In an attempt to defuse the situation, the husband said, he offered the intruder a ride home. During the trip, they stopped at the Speedway in Enon. Once they left the Speedway, the husband said, he dropped the intruder off in the area of Wilmington Pike.

UPDATE @ 5:17 a.m.
Huber Heights police say they are looking for a man who allegedly shot at an officer responding to a home invasion on Taylorsville Road.
They identified the man as Matthew Short. He was last seen headed toward a neighborhood between Taylorsville Road and Brandt Pike after he showed up at a United Dairy Farmers, said Huber Heights Lt. Matt Dulaney.
“We don’t know if he’s still armed; he’s already fired shots at a police officer, so we need to get a hold of him,” Dulaney said.
The suspect was described as a tall white man with a dark beard wearing jeans with a hole in them. However, officers said in a news release that they have since learned that he has shaved his beard and mustache.
There is blood on his jeans and on the cuff of his shirt, Dulaney said. He has cuts on both arms and blood on his shirt sleeves, possibly from diving out of a window to escape.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 937-237-2080.
Early Monday, local police agencies were notifying emergency rooms and 24-hour urgent care centers to be on the lookout for someone seeking care for similar injuries.
Police issued a Code Red for the neighborhood, urging residents to lock their doors and report any suspicious activity.
The incident began as a 911 hangup call around 6 p.m. from a residence in the 7600 block of Taylorsville Road. While on the way, police learned it was a burglary in progress, Dulaney said.
When officers arrived, the suspect fired at police, prompting one officer to fire back and put out a “99” call for assistance that brought law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions and a special weapons and tactics team.
“What we’re learning now, it appears to be a home invasion, we know that some residents were tied up,” Dulaney said.
Police surrounded the home because they believed the suspect had holed himself inside and that there was at least one victim inside. During the incident, Taylorsville Road was blocked at Bellefontaine Road.
“It does appear that the suspect got out of the house that we initially thought he was barricaded in,” Dulaney said.
Police were later called to the UDF at Brandt Pike after a man with bloody clothes walked into the store.
The man’s image was captured on surveillance video, and he was identified as the suspect by at least one victim, according to police.
Police are not sure the suspect was hit by police, but said there is blood inside the residence near a broken window.
