Kristina Henley, 44, was to go on trial Sept. 22 on two felony theft charges. However, documents filed a couple days ahead of her trial indicated she planned to change her plea during a hearing scheduled for Monday.
Henley, a Richmond, Indiana, resident, worked for a facility for developmentally disabled residents in Preble County.
UPDATE (Sept. 19): A health care worker accused of stealing more than $12,000 from clients will change her plea, according to court records filed Friday.
Kristina Henley, 44, was charged with two felony counts of theft.
Her trial was to begin Sept. 22, but court records show she is now scheduled for a change of plea hearing on Sept. 29.
FIRST REPORT (March 6): An employee of a Preble County facility for developmentally disabled residents was indicted by a grand jury this week on a charge of theft in excess of $12,000.
Sheriff's deputies say Kristina Henley, 44, of Richmond, Ind., was purchasing items and gift cards at local stores, allegedly for use by clients of Foundations, a health care facility near New Paris. Deputies say she used the funds to buy clothes, an iPad and other electronics, as well as gift cards.
But instead of giving the items to the residents of the facility, authorities say the health care worker kept them for herself or returned them for cash. The gift cards were used to buy gas, they say.
Henley's employer contacted the Preble County Sheriff's Office in July of last year after conducting an audit of an in-house checking account that Henley had access to. Deputies worked with staff reviewing transactions and receipts dating back to 2012.
Henley was taken to the Preble County Jail.
