Darke County deputies use Taser to subdue man who fired air pistol, was aggressive

DARKE COUNTY — Deputies used a Taser to subdue a man during an incident in which the man had fired an air pistol, armed himself with a knife and approached in an aggressive manner.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4 p.m. Monday to the 30 block of Friar Truck Drive after a woman reported her son was tearing up the inside of the residence and possibly needed a medical evaluation.

When deputies went inside, the man charged down a hallway at deputies with a knife before going inside a room and shutting the door, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies used a public address system to communicate with the man, when at one point he appeared in the doorway and fired an air pistol at deputies. When he was ordered to drop the pistol, he then threw it towards the deputies and branched a knife.

When ordered to drop the knife, he threw it on the ground and began to approach the deputies in an aggressive manner, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies than used a Taser to take the man into custody without further incident.

He was taken to Wayne Healthcare for an evaluation.
