UPDATE: Crews quickly knock down working fire on East Salem Street, cause still under investigation

CLAYTON — UPDATE: @ 6:08 a.m.:

Emergency fire crews quickly knocked down a house fire on East Salem Street in Clayton early Saturday morning.

Battalion Chief Scott Wagner said the family woke up smelling smoke and hearing fire detectors going off inside the house.

“They saw a fire in the back of the house and called 911. Upon our crew’s arrival, we knocked it down pretty quickly,” he said.

By the time crews arrived everyone was out of the house safely without injury with a majority of the fire contained to the back of the house.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crews are responding to a working structure fire on the 30 block of East Salem Street in Clayton.

According to scanner reports, the call for emergency crews came around 3:30 a.m.

There are no reports of injuries at this time.
