Ohioans 12 to 15 years old eligible for vaccines today

Following Gov. Mike DeWine’s announcements yesterday, the state will begin offering COVID-19 vaccinations for Ohioans between 12 and 15 years old starting today.

The age group is now eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine, after the vaccine’s use was expanded for emergency use earlier this week by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory committee also voted in favor to expanding the recommendation for the vaccine’s use for the juvenile age group.

“We will start vaccinating these children in Ohio starting (Thursday) morning,” DeWine said in the statewide address Wednesday.

A parent or guardian’s approval is still required for a juvenile to receive the shot.

Teens who get the vaccine are also part of a separate, incentive lottery that will reward five people with free tuition to any state school in Ohio, DeWine announced Thursday.

News Center 7 will be updating this story with developments through the day.
