Ohio Governor Mike DeWine began his news conference Thursday talking about the life and legacy of Bob Mills. Mills, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, passed away at his Beavercreek home Monday.
“Bob Mills had a vision for his community. He really saw the future and made it happen,” said the governor. “He saw what should be happening with 675, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Wright State University; he put it together, he made it happen. The Miami Valley is different, is better, because of Bob Mills. He saw the opportunity to connect the post-BRAC growth at Wright Patterson, saw that there were going to be more missions coming to the base. (He) connected that with what was going on at Wright State University, for both the public and private sector to have access to a pipeline of workers. He really dreamed it, envisioned it, and it came true, and we are better off for it, certainly in southwest Ohio and the rest of the state. He was ahead of his time, he saw the future, he made it happen. Our sympathy goes out to his wife, Barbara, daughters Janel and Melissa, and all of his grandkids, who I know that he loved very, very much, and also stepchildren Sarah and Alex.”
Bob Mills was the founder of Synergy Building Systems and Mills Development. His support for local causes includes the Mills Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at Dayton Children’s Hospital, which was in honor of his granddaughter, who is a cancer survivor.
With his family, he also created the Mills Family Foundation, and created the Gala of Hope foundation with his wife.
