Arraignment set in June double shooting in Dayton that left 2 dead

UPDATE @ 4:05 p.m. (July 12): A 43-year-old man is not indicted  on additional charges following the death last week of his brother, one of two victims in a June double shooting in Dayton.

Willie Henry Jr. is now charged with an additional two counts of murder, according to a Montgomery County grand jury report.

Arraignment for Henry is scheduled for Tuesday, according to court documents.

Henry’s brother, 41-year-old Lavar Cottrell, died July 6 of injuries suffered in a June 21 shooting at a home in the first block of East Norman Avenue in Dayton.

Cottrell’s girlfriend, Barbara Goubeaux, 41, was shot and died at the scene.

Henry remains jailed on $1 million bond.

EARLIER (July 6):

A second victim in a double shooting last month in Dayton has died.

Lavar Cottrell, 41, died today, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.

He was shot, along with his girlfriend, on June 21 at a home in the first block of East Norman Avenue.

Cottrell’s girlfriend, Barbara Goubeaux, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cottrell’s brother, Willie Henry Jr., 43, was indicted for the shooting last Tuesday. Charges likely will be upgraded following Cottrell’s death.

Henry was charged with two counts of murder and four counts of felonious assault, all with three-year firearm specifications, and one count of having weapons under disability.

Cottrell was taken to Miami Valley Hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries and later transferred to a Cincinnati facility, where he died.
