Xenia plans to flush hydrants the week of May 7

Beginning on Monday, May 7, and lasting the entire week, Xenia maintenance crews will be flushing city fire hydrants in order to test them and clean the water mains.

The hour for flushing are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The purpose of hydrant flushing is to avoid any inclement weather conditions and keep citizens safe in case of fire emergencies.

Residents may notice discolored water, low water pressure, and hydrants flowing for long periods of time.

The water is safe to drink, but should be checked before drawing the water and doing laundry.

Residents with water softeners should not cycle their unit at night unless the water has been checked.

The tentative schedule for flushing is:

**May 7 - Northwest of W. Church St., North of Market St. and Dayton Ave. and West of N. Detroit St.

**May 8 - West of St. Rt. 35 and Northwest of Bellbrook Ave.

**May 9 - North of E. Church St. and East of N. Detroit St. including Amlin Heights and Old Springfield Pike

**May 10 - Between Church St., Market St. and Dayton Ave. on the North and South of E. Third St. along Cincinnati Ave. to Industrial to Bellbrook Ave. and Northeast of St. Rt. US 35

**May 11 - South of Third St. and East of Bellbrook Ave. to Industrial Blvd. then East of Cincinnati Ave.
