Teenager, on skateboard, is hit by vehicle on North Ohio Street in Greenville

Child struck by vehicle outside business in Greenville

GREENVILLE — A 15-year-old reportedly is in serious condition after he was hit by a vehicle when he tried to cross North Ohio Street from a park and golf driving range business, Greenville police said.

Sgt. Jason Marion said the teenager was on a skateboard, riding beside a truck that had stopped and was waiting to turn south from the parking lot of the park and Caddy Shack driving range, in the 300 block of North Ohio.

The teenager continued into the street when an oncoming Lincoln MDX SUV hit him, Marion said. The teenager was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital by CareFlight.

“It appears [the teenager’s] vision was obstructed by the truck that was waiting to turn south" and he possibly didn’t see the oncoming vehicle, Marion said.

The sergeant said he was in the area when he was alerted to the accident by a retired sheriff’s deputy about 5:12 p.m.

Marion said there will have to be more investigation before police determine whether charges will be pursued against the driver or the teenager.

North Ohio Street was closed more than two hours for the accident investigation.
