Restarting Ohio: Just one week left to file your taxes

DAYTON — The deadline to file taxes is July 15.

That’s because the federal government extended the deadline because of COVID-19.

Carolyn Jordan, Dayton’s tax administrator and income tax supervisor said since City Hall reopened Monday, 10 to 15 people a day are coming in to get help filing their city tax returns.

“It is very important. Individuals or anyone who does not file timely, they may be subject to a late fee and penalty as well as interest,” Jordan said.

Jordan said if people are not ready to file, they can file for an extension.

“If they file the federal extension that automatically gets them an extension to file their city return. If they are not required to file a federal extension, they could also request one directly from us,” she said.

Jordan also said the city will set up a payment plan to help people who owe money.

“We are more than willing to work with them,” she said.

To get assistance with the paperwork, make an appointment with the City of Dayton. You can do so online or by calling 937-333-3500.

Centerville also is requiring appointments for assistance.

Xenia is helping people on a first come, first serve basis.
