Madison Twp. groomer faces animal cruelty charge

Madison Twp. groomer charged with animal cruelty Lacey, the 13-year-old Yorkshire terrier belonging to Tina Brady of Madison Twp. was euthanized due to the extent of her injures.

Madison Twp. — An independent Madison Twp. groomer is being charged with cruelty to a companion animal after a dog owner left her elderly dog with the groomer on June 20, according to The Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

The dog owner Tina Brady took her 13-year-old Yorkshire terrier, Lacey, to Andra Edison, 51, a dog groomer that had recently branched out on her own after the groomers she was employed by shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms. Brady stated to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Dog Wardens that after the groomer dropped Lacey off at her home after her grooming, the dog was whimpering, falling over, and unable to walk holding her head towards the ground.

Lacey was then taken to MedVet for emergency care. It was determined the dog suffered blunt force trauma to the head, bruising around the neck and shoulders, and seven broken ribs causing lung contusions.

Brady decided to euthanize Lacey due to the extent of injuries.

During their investigation, BCSODW determined that the groomer Andra Edison conducted a Dominance/Submission Hold, holding the four-pound elderly dog down with full body weight on the metal grooming table.

According to the veterinarian at MedVet, this may have been the cause of the broken ribs and contusions. The bruising on the neck was most likely from the chain or leash used by the groomer to hold the dog still.

Andra Edison, 51, of Madison Twp. is charged with Cruelty to a Companion Animal.

“It’s scary to think you drop your dog off to be groomed and she comes back in such a condition you have to have her euthanized. That’s when we step in to make sure the person responsible faces a judge,” stated Sheriff Richard K. Jones.
