KETTERING — The city is canceling the 2020 season at Fraze Pavilion because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Please know that we did not arrive at this decision lightly," city officials said in a statement released Tuesday evening.
"Fraze Pavilion is a big part of what makes Kettering home! Know that we will continue to follow the direction and information provided by the CDC (Centers for Disease Prevention and Conrtol), (Public Health -- Dayton & Montgomery County) Montgomery County Public Health and the Ohio Department of Health when re-opening the facility in a way that is focused on the health and safety of our artists, guests and team.”
Guests who purchased tickets for our upcoming season directly from the Fraze FanFare box office, Etix online or by phone will automatically receive a full refund within 14 days.
“We will continue to work to provide additional updates regarding our 2021 season as information becomes available,” officials said in the statement.
The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the city’s entire summer 2020 season, according to City Manager Mark Schwieterman and the city’s recreation department. Not only is the 2020 season at Fraze shut down, but:
- All parks, recreation and cultural arts indoor facilities remain closed until further notice. This includes the Kettering Recreation Complex (including Main Pool), Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center, Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center, Habitat Environmental Center and Rosewood Arts Centre.
- The Adventure Reef Water Park will not open for the summer 2020 season.
- The Splash Pad at J. F. Kennedy Park will not open in 2020.
- All summer camps are canceled.
- All summer sports programs are canceled.
- Go 4th Fireworks Independence Day Celebration is canceled.
- The Kettering Recreation Complex and Senior Center could still reopen this year, but are currently following Ohio guidelines and will remain closed until further notice.
Refunds for tickets, passes or enrollments will be processed automatically within the next two weeks.
“These facilities, programs, events and camps are a big part of what makes Kettering home; and, the care and consideration for the safety of our customers and staff is paramount in making these difficult decisions,” Schwieterman said.
“It is our responsibility to help flatten the COVID-19 curve and keep our community in good health," he said.
