Three inmates are among seven people at the Greene County Jail who have tested positive for COVID-19, Sheriff Gene Fischer said Tuesday.

Three jail staff members and a mental health contract worker are the others infected with the virus.
Sheriff Fischer said the first positive case was about 10 days ago, involving a jail employee. The other tested positive last Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 25-27).
The jail has isolated the inmates and the workers are home for 14 days.
None of the seven had to go to a hospital, the sheriff said. Their symptoms have not been serious.
The jail has tested 70 other people as a result of the positive tests.
Sheriff Fischer said he had no idea how the virus got into the jail.
“We’ve gone 150-plus days before we had our first positive test,” he said. “It’s kind of disappointing we have gone this far, but we knew it was only a matter of time.”
WHIO checked the online jail record Tuesday afternoon, which puts the jail population at 214 inmates.
