NOW PLAYING ABOVE

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 10:49 p.m.: An altercation in a residence on South Hedges Avenue led to an exchange of gunfire, Dayton police Sgt. Joe Setty said.

The police investigation is continuing, he said. No other information was available.

Callers to Montgomery County 9-1-1 reported hearing gunfire but said they did not see the gunman.

“Hey, it’s on South Hedges. They’re shooting guns out here!” the first caller, a male, said. “I’m ducking.”

The second caller had more information, but was excited for the safety of her children.

Somebody just shot a ----- gun on South Hedges!” the woman caller said, her voice rising. “We heard five gunshots. It’s close as hell!”

"He shot at a window," she said she was told by one of her neighbors.

As she spoke with the dispatcher, she said as many as six people began to argue.

“From what I was told by the neighbor, the gunman just left,” the woman said.

Then more gunfire erupted from inside the address, to which her children reacted with screams.

“I’m on my porch!” the woman said. “My children are inside!”
