2 jailed on drug-related charges after a traffic stop in Mercer County, sheriff says

MERCER COUNTY — A suspended driver’s license and a hunch led to the arrest of two people on drug-related charges, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said Thursday.

William Fetters, 46, of North Holly Street in Rockford has been booked into the county jail on felony charges of drug possession (methamphetamine) and driving under suspension.

His passenger, 27-year-old Pamela Renee King of Lima, remains in jail on the same drug charge.

Carolyn Fetters, 67, the owner of the car, was cited on a charge of wrongful entrustment for allowing a unlicensed driver to drive her car.

Sheriff Grey said one of his deputies conducted a traffic stop just after 7 p.m. Wednesday and observed that William Fetters, who is known to her, has a suspended license.

The deputy, who was not identified by name, suspected there were narcotics in the vehicle and called for a K-9 officer. One arrived from the Coldwater Police Department, conducted a “walk around” and alerted to the car.

That prompted a search of the car, which turned up marijuana, prescription pills, white powder and drug instruments. A preliminary test conducted on the white powder indicated it was methamphetamine.

The deputies called the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for legal advice. After consulting with the prosecutor’s office, both occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

Bond for Fetters was set at $100,000 cash or 10%. King’s bond was set at $50,000 cash or 10%.
