UPDATE @ 9:55 p.m.
Skywatchers are able to see the planet Saturn in the night sky.
Saturn is visible tonight towards the southwest. It is clear enough to use use the moon as a guide to spot Saturn. How can you tell if you’re looking at a planet? A planet won’t tend to twinkle like stars do.
Saturn is the fifth planet visible today from Earth.
In the predawn hours this morning, skywatchers were able to see Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Mercury.
FIRST REPORT
On Saturday, area residents should have the opportunity to see five planets, StormCenter 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini said.
In the early morning hours before dawn, look towards the eastern sky to see Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Mercury.
Venus will be the brightest and highest in the sky with Jupiter just below. Mars will appear smaller, but just to the left of Jupiter. Finally, if you have a clear view of the horizon you will be able to see Mercury as well, Zontini said.
Then Saturday night, head back out and this time look towards the southwest. The sky will be clear enough to use the moon as a guide to spot Saturn.
