High Wind Warning, advisory issued ahead of storm system that will affect holiday travel

A strong storm system will arrive this week as travel starts to pick up for Thanksgiving.

It will be windy Wednesday in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Kentucky.

Wednesday morning, a High Wind Warning or Wind Advisory, will go into effect in the region.

The High Wind Warning is in effect Wednesday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. for Auglaize, Darke, Logan, Mercer, Miami and Shelby counties in Ohio and Randolph and Wayne counties in Indiana.

The Wind Advisory goes into effect from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday for Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Greene, Montgomery, Preble, and Warren counties in Ohio and Union County in Indiana.

By Thursday morning, strong winds will affect the northeast in places like New York City, and likely will keep balloons grounded for the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Here’s what you need to know if you’re traveling for the holiday:

TUESDAY:

Dry and mild day in the upper 50s.

Rain arrives at night with the chance for some thunder.

Winds will gust up to 40 mph during the overnight hours.

WEDNESDAY:

More rain and some thunder continue through the midday hours.

Winds for morning and afternoon could gust between 40 and 50 mph.

Temperatures will quickly drop throughout the day. In the morning temperatures will be in the 60s but will fall into the 40s during the day.

WIND IMPACT:

Wind gusts will be out of the southwest so driving east/west bound or south bound will be the three directions drivers will feel the wind the most.

Any type of vehicle could swerve so drive with plenty of space between you and the cars around you
