Miami Valley under first forecasted heat wave of 2021

Dayton reached a high temperature of 90 degrees yesterday for the third time in 2021, and 90s are in the forecast for today and Tuesday.

A heat wave is classified as three consecutive 90 degree or warmer days. Currently, we are forecasting a high of 90 both today and Tuesday. That would qualify this stretch of 90s as our first heat wave of the year.

Dayton typically sees 15 days each year where the temperature climbs to 90 degrees or warmer. The record number of 90 degree days in a year is 62. That has occurred twice, interestingly in consecutive years in 1899 and again in 1900.

Fans of cooler weather won’t have to wait all that long for some relief from the heat. High temperatures will fall back to the 80s for Wednesday and Thursday. Highs in the upper 70s are possible on Friday.
