The Flyers were scheduled to play the Georgetown Hoyas Sept. 12 in Washington D.C. However the game was cancelled Monday after the Patriot League, who the Hoyas are members for football, announced all 2020 fall sports would be suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, according to a statement posted on the UD athletics’ website.

The originally scheduled season-opener for the Flyers was cancelled in June after Dayton and Southeast Missouri jointly agreed to move the game to another season.

Both cancelled games were part of the Flyers’ non-conference schedule. Only nine games remain on the Flyer’s schedule, one of which is a non-conference game, the home opener against Robert Morris Sept. 19.

Currently the Flyers’ eight Pioneer Football League games remain on the schedule.

The Patriot League was the second Division I conference to postpone fall sports, joining the Ivy League, according to reports from multiple media outlets. The Big Ten and Pac 12 conferences have announced non-conference games will be cancelled for the 2020 season and schools will only play fellow conference members.
