DAYTON — Wright State University will still welcome new residential students to the Dayton campus despite a combination remote and in-person fall semester.

More than 1,260 new and returning students will move into residence halls and on-campus apartments through August 20-23.

Classes will begin August 24 and includes a combination of remote, flexible delivery, and socially distant in-person classes.

Traditionally, Wright State holds a large move-in event with 400 volunteers, but the pandemic has forced a different plan.

Students moving in will schedule a specific time and date to move their belongings into their residential housing to maintain social distancing during move-in. Students will only be able to bring two people to help them move.

"Move-In will be different this year than it has been for the past 25 years as a result of accommodating safety considerations for COVID-19," said Dan Bertsos, director of Residence Life and Housing.

Students will check-in at Lot 4 with a touchless drive-through process. They will also receive a “Wright Start” kit that includes hand sanitizer, masks, thermometer, reminders of campus safety protocols, and other tools.

Students who traveled to Wright State from high-case areas were instructed to self-quarantine for two weeks.

The university has plans to house students in quarantine due to illness and temporarily re-assign students who test or are presumed positive for COVID-19.

Students who live off-campus during the fall semester will be allowed to live in residential housing during the spring semester.
