Nearly two dozen Ukrainian children arrived in the United Kingdom on Sunday, where they will receive cancer treatment for free, the BBC and The Guardan reported.
Sajid Javid, Britain’s secretary of state for health and social care, confirmed via Twitter that 21 pediatric oncology patients arrived in the U.K. to continue their treatment.
I can confirm that 21 very ill Ukrainian children with cancer have landed safely in UK this evening. @NHSEngland will now ensure they get life-saving care in safety.

Hugely grateful to everyone involved in helping get these children and their families here.
According to a news release obtained by The Guardian, the children were transported to the U.K. with the help of Polish authorities and clinicians.
“Hospitals in Poland have taken in many children needing health care who have arrived from Ukraine. With more children crossing the border requiring immediate treatment, the U.K. has responded to Poland’s call for support from international partners to provide additional care,” the agency stated in a news release.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has confirmed that more than 2.5 million people, including more than a million children, have already fled Ukraine since Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion, marking the fastest refugee exodus since World War II.
“I am proud that the U.K. is offering lifesaving medical care to these Ukrainian children, who have been forced out of their home country by the Russian invasion while undergoing medical treatment,” Javid stated.
