5 killed after plane crashes near Clinton National Airport in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Five people on board a plane were killed on Wednesday when the aircraft crashed near Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas authorities said.

The twin-engine plane crashed near the 3M Plant in Little Rock at about 12:02 p.m. CST, KARK-TV reported.

According to reports, the plane was departing the airport when the accident occurred, according to KTHV-TV.

Just after 2 p.m. CST, officials with the Federal Aviation Administration reported that the plane was a twin-engine BE20 departing for John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio, KARK reported. The FAA confirmed that five people were on the plane, and deputies at the scene said there were no survivors, according to the television station.

There is no information about what caused the crash, deputies told KTHV.

The plane crashed in a wooded, rocky area on 3M Road, about a mile from the airport, Lt. Cody Burk, a spokesperson for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Burk added that the weather was bad on Wednesday, but he did not confirm whether the elements contributed to the crash, according to the newspaper.

Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board officials were due to arrive later Wednesday to investigate, the Democrat-Gazette reported.
