Police were called to an apartment complex on Kodiak Drive near Canal Winchester shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on initial reports of shots fired. First officers on scene found a vehicle parked with several bullet holes in it.

A man and two kids were found inside the car all suffering from gunshot wounds, the station reported. Officers attempted to provide aid however all three victims were pronounced dead a short time later.

Police identified the victims Wednesday morning as Charles Wade, 22, Demitrius Wall’neal, 9, and Londynn Wall’neal, 6.

In a social media post, police said two shooters approached to car and fired shots at the car “without any warning or provocation.” After firing the shots, the two shooters got into a waiting car, driven by a third person, and fled the scene.

“This gun violence has got to stop. There is a mother now that will have to go on in her life with two young babies that she no longer get to raise,” Columbus Police Assistant Police Chief Lashanna Potts said in an interview with our news partners WBNS-TV in Columbus.

Potts said the three victims were inside the vehicle when someone began firing at it.

“We will find these monsters who took it upon themselves to riddle a car not knowing who was inside and in the end killed two young babies,” Potts said.

Additional details on the suspects were not released. Anyone with details on the shooting are asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or the Center Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
