A non-profit is pleading with the community to not give up on Haiti after the death toll from a weekend earthquake climbed to nearly 2,000.
“With this natural disaster that just happened, with the earthquake, tropical storm Grace that just went through, this is on top of the political unrest that they’ve had, there’s been gang violence that has been rapid,” said Haitian Timoun Foundation Executive Director Danette Miller.

Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the international community, led by the United States and the United Nations, provided $13.5 billion dollars in humanitarian aid to Haiti, according to government tracking website Gov Track. But still, Miller said more can be done to help Haiti.
Miller said the problems of Haiti require more than just money and emergency aid, and that’s why she says The Timoun Foundation focuses on providing resources that help Haitian help themselves.
“When you walk around and you see the devastation and you see children that don’t have clothes on, and they don’t have diapers because they can’t afford it, just knowing that you can make a difference — it’s amazing,” Miller said.
