The city of Kettering is re-evaluating its ice arena, which has not been profitable four of the last five years and is in need of more than $6 million in repairs.
“Over the last five years we have seen our revenues decline,” Mary Beth Thaman, the city’s director of parks, recreation and cultural arts, said of the Kettering Ice Arena. “Unfortunately, we’ve just gone through one of the worst recessions we’ve ever had and skating and hockey is an expensive sport.”
Thaman said the city also needs to make repairs to the arena’s roofing system, ice compressors, some of the floor piping and other infrastructure to keep the facility viable.
