‘Getaway driver’ in 2008 robberies granted release

A man tabbed as the ‘getaway driver’ in numerous 2008 bank robberies, was granted release from prison after serving six years.

The attorney for Kyle Cypher said during a hearing in Darke County court that he tried to better himself while in prison and was actively trying to get his life back together.

Cypher, who was 22 when the crimes were committed, was indicted for his role in two armed robberies of the Greenville National Bank in 2008, and sentenced to eight years in prison. Investigators say Cypher would drive while his accomplice, Donald Sorrell would commit the robberies. The pair was also convicted of numerous other robberies in several counties Indiana.

“I was young and immature when this happened,” Cypher said by a video connection during the hearing. “I was influenced by a bad man.”

The court suspended the remaining two years of his sentence citing good behavior and lack of criminal history. Cypher will be on probation for up to 60 months, ordered to complete any recommended treatment programs and will complete 125 hours of community service.
