DeWine, Michigan Gov. Whitmer place bets on ‘The Game’

COLUMBUS — The rivalry between the Buckeyes and the Wolverines goes far beyond the football field, even the Ohio and Michigan governors are placing bets on who they think will come out on top.

The Ohio State University will host the University of Michigan for the 118th meeting of what fans commonly refer to as ‘The Game’ on Saturday at noon., and Gov. Mike DeWine along with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer have placed their bets on who they think will take home the victory, according to a spokesperson with DeWine and Whitmer’s offices.

“With Ohio State and Michigan both undefeated entering The Game, and with Big Ten Championship Game and College Football Playoff berths on the line, the eyes of American sports fans will be on Columbus, Ohio, and Ohio Stadium tomorrow,” DeWine said in a statement obtained by News Center 7.

DeWine offered Buckeye Pizza from Adriatico’s on OSU’s campus, Stewart’s Root Beer and Jumbo Cream Puffs from Schmidt’s Sausage Haus, the spokesperson said.

Whitmer bet a Detroit-style gift package that included Buddy’s pizza, a dessert from Good Cakes and Bakes and a case of Vernors ginger ale, the spokesperson said.

“I am proud of and confident in our Buckeye football team again this year, and I am willing to put a little skin in The Game with another friendly wager showcasing great Ohio food. O-H!” DeWine said.
