The Miami County Transfer Station and Recycling Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new residential drop-off facility this morning.
The station is located at 2200 N. County Road 25A between Troy and Piqua.
The station’s new area features an unloading area beneath a steel canopy.
The $510,000 project allows the transfer station to double its unloading capacity and add additional unloading bays.
Over the past two years, Miami County’s solid waste facility has seen a steady increase in non-commercial and small haulers bringing waste to the transfer station, according to a release.
Several factors contributed to the influx, including Montgomery County’s North Transfer Station closing in 2014 and subscription service costs for private contractors going up throughout Miami County.
The Miami County Commissioners approved a lower tipping fee, which went into effect in April, driving even more residents to haul their own trash, the release said.
