VIDEO: ODOT footage captures I-675 wrong-way driver moments before crash

BEAVERCREEK — UPDATE @ 2:50 p.m. (May 8): 

This newsroom filed a public request with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to obtain video of a wrong-way driver entering Interstate 675 moments before a crash in Beavercreek. The video was released Tuesday.

The video shows the vehicle travel south on the Colonel Glenn Highway ramp to northbound I-675. The vehicle continues straight and starts traveling south in the northbound lanes past the U.S. 35 exit.

The driver, identified by police as Hailey Owens, 21, later crashed into a semi near the Indian Ripple Road exit.

Owens remains at Miami Valley Hospital and is listed in fair condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Beavercreek police said Monday alcohol was believed to be a factor in the incident.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 675 in Beavercreek early Monday morning, according to police.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 1:15 a.m. Monday on reports of a car traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-675 near U.S. 35.

The driver, identified as Hailey Owens, 21, crashed her car into the side of a semi truck, according to Beavercreek police. The vehicle caught fire after the crash, but the semi truck driver helped put the fire out, investigators said.

Owens was transported to Miami Valley Hospital and was stable at the time of the crash. Her condition is currently not available, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police said alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.

Two northbound lanes of the highway were blocked for about two hours and reopened around 3:15 a.m.

UPDATE @ 3:15 a.m.::

All lanes are now open on northbound I-675 following an early morning wrong-way crash.

FIRST REPORT:

Around 1:15 a.m., crews were dispatched on reports of a car going southbound in the northbound lanes of I-675. A couple minutes later, the vehicle crashed on northbound I-675 just south of U.S. 35. The car then caught fire.

A woman was injured and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. No one else was injured.

As of 2:10 a.m., the right two lanes of I-675 remain closed.
