Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to host active-shooter exercise today

FAIRBORN — Wright-Patterson Air Force will be hosting a scheduled base-wide active shooter exercise today.

The base will be going into full lock down and everyone on base will take immediate action as if it was a real-world event, according to a base spokesperson.

This is the second of two such exercises planned on the installation this year.

Officials are asking that the community avoid the scenario area and if possible, to not call 911 during the exercise — surrounding dispatch centers and emergency responders will be aware that the training is happening.

Other potential impacts from the exercise include traffic backups, blocked roadways, increased security, and alert sirens.
