Why Trotwood residents could see discolored water in the coming months

TROTWOOD — Trotwood residents may see discolored water coming out of their taps starting next month.

Trotwood Fire and Rescue will be checking fire hydrant flow rates between the dates of April 1 and Sept. 30, according to a release.

Hydrant flow testing and hydrant flushing can cause rust in the waterlines, the city said.

Testing is done each year to inspect the hydrants and water system for proper operation.

The city recommends making sure your water is clear before doing any laundry to prevent rust staining.

Trotwood Fire and Rescue will be flow testing the following neighborhood and weeks:

  • May 2: Shiloh Gardens, Wolf Run, Salem Ave, Shiloh Springs, Olive Road, Industrial Park, Northgate, Main Street and Free Pike
  • May 9: Salem Village, Drexel and Old Town
  • May 16: Broadmoor, Olive Rd and Rural Areas
  • May 23: Townview, Sycamore Woods, Westbrook Village

Testing will be done between 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.
