Waste and recycling rates in the city will increase by $5 effective January 1, 2023, a City of Centerville spokesperson said in a social media message.

These rates for waste and recycling will jump from $18 to $24 per month. Special waste pickups will increase by $15, from $35 up to $50 per pick up, according to a City of Centerville website.

A recent cost-of-service study conducted by the city showed that the waste collection fund is no longer covering all of the expenses which prompted the increase, the website states in an FAQ section.

“Without a fee increase, the Waste Collection fund balance would drop below its requirement. This increase will stabilize the Waste Collection Fund and allow crews to continue providing the high level of service the community expects and deserves,” the website states.

Services provided by the city’s waste collection department will remain the same including services like Christmas tree pick-up and the city’s annual bulk pick-up.

Hardship exemptions are offered for those who can’t afford waste collection services, and are determined based on eligibility. Questions about hardship eligibility, and other general questions can be directed to the city’s waste billing department at 937-428-4746 or by emailing wastebilling@centervilleohio.gov.
